The Romans Road to Salvation

The Romans road to salvation is one of simplest, straight- forward messages on the subject of salvation that I know.  It is based on four scriptures found in the book of Romans.  When I preach a salvation message to a group of people I use one or more of the concepts found in the Roman road to salvation.  I have used this message so much that some times I make reference to only one or two of it’s verses.  But it is the truths revealed in the “Roman road”, that make it such a powerful salvation tool.  The truths found in these four verses make the plan of salvation simple, and that’s my objective.

Sometimes I’ll tell a story from the bible or just tell a story.  But no matter how I dress it up the message is still the same and I end back up on the “Roman road”.

There are 6 truths revealed in these 4 verses.  Lets look at them.

Verse 1.  “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”.  Rom. 3:23.  This is a powerful simple truth, and is a great motivation for why we preach.  Everyone has sinned.  “There is none righteous, No Not One.”  Rom. 3:10.  This puts us all in the same category.  John said “If any man says he has not sinned he is a liar”.  Everyone has sinned.  Mamas, daddys, babys, the scripture says we “were conceived in sin.”Psalm 51:5.  We were born in sin.  Everyone has the same need.

Verse 2. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, CHRIST DIED FOR US!”

We have a condition it’s called sin.  But the Love of God has provided a cure.  His name is Jesus.  God, recognizing that we have a condition we cannot cure, has provided one for us.  The sacrifice of Jesus.  Oh, that he would die for me a sinner!

Verse 3.  “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift* of God is eternal life.” Rom. 6:23.  There are two truths revealed here.  Sin has brought death.  But eternal life is a Free Gift!  I cannot over emphasize that salvation is a free gift.  It cannot be earned, it cannot be paid back.  It is free.  But if we reject that which is free we deserve what we get.  Death, judgement, condemnation, and eternal damnation.  Salvation is FREE!  All you have to do is accept it.

Verse 4.  “That if you will confess with your mouth Jesus AS Lord, and believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”  Rom. 10:9.  At this point you want your listeners to pray and make a confession of faith in Jesus Christ.  Keep your prayers simple, having them repeat after you.  Have them acknowledge their sin and their need for cleansing.  That Christ would cleanse and forgive their sin.  Pray that the Holy Spirit would come into their lives and give them assurance.  Then remind them that you will meet them someday in heaven.  Encourage them to go to church and study the bible for strength.

Notes:  In Romans 6:23 the words “free gift” are translated from one Greek word Charisma.  Literally meaning a Free gift, with emphasis on that the gift is free.

This teaching is only a guideline.  You can use the truths and make it your own.

In Rom. 10:9 the word confess is translated from the Greek word homologeo.  Which means to speak in agreement.  That your confession is literally coming into agreement with the Holy Spirit that Jesus Is Lord!
